The Dally M awards might not go ahead this year but that hasn't stopped us from naming our Team of the Year!

We've polled the fans, crunched the numbers and then ignored it all to name the best players in each position for the 2017 season.

Who makes the side and who wins the Dally M Medal in 2017?

Centre

Winner: James Roberts

The first instance I have disagreed with the popular vote, as James Roberts just pips his Melbourne counterpart for the centre of the year spot. 13 line breaks, 15 tries and four try assists don't do the Jet's season justice. He is the game's most dangerous centre and can carve any side up on any day. I get the feeling he still has a way to go toward fulfilling his potential, but a NSW jersey is his next season. Although no centre really stamped themselves in the way both Slater and Vunivalu did, Roberts was a weapon in 2017.

Will Chambers efforts see him place second for mine. The margin is not massive, but if I had a blank cheque book and only 2017 form to go off, the Jet is my man. Chambers scored seven tries, made eight line breaks and laid on five try assists. Those stats aren't all that catchy, but it's Chambers ability to work hard and play consistently well which makes him an elite outside back.
