Sharks coach Shanae Flanagan says the club have offered Bulldogs prop Aaron Woods a deal and that the ball was in Canterbury's court to make it happen.
Cronulla have had their eye on Woods for some time now after the 27-year old was made available by the capped Bulldogs, and Flanagan confirmed that the Sharks have already tried to broker a deal.
“We have put our offer forward to his management,” Flanagan told Sharks Media.
“It is now between his management and the Bulldogs to come up with a settlement.
“We can’t influence that any further, it is just a matter of him doing a deal and being satisfied with the settlement and moving on.
“The ball is out of our court at the moment and we just need to move forward.”
Given injuries have tested Cronulla's front row depth, the Sharks coach said Woods would be a handy acquisition.
“I’d like it to happen moving forward,” Flanagan said.
“Especially for this year and he would make a big difference, with a question mark over Gal (Paul Gallen) and Lewy (Luke Lewis).
“We need another forward there and a big body, so I could move Matty Prior back to 13 and we could continue on with what we have been doing.
Meanwhile, Flanagan said the team is working on extending the deals of two of their youngsters.
“Sione Katoa is contracted next year, but we are trying to extend his deal,” Flanagan said.
“Jack Williams is another, so there are these young players that are about to play and we are in a good position so we are trying to extend those younger players’ deals.”
Flanagan was keen to see veteran forward Matt Prior make his Origin debut on Sunday night.
“I’m really excited about Matty Prior getting his first game and I think it will be a really good weekend,” Flanagan said.
“I’ll just keep my fingers crossed there are no injuries.”
