The amount of young talent in the NRL right now is ridiculous. I don't think I've ever seen such a boom of future superstars.
While compiling the below top 10 players under the age of 23, the list of names who missed the cut was incredible. Some of the names will be listed below and should cause plenty of discussion.
Please feel free to let us know your top 10 young players in the NRL.
Please note that Cameron Munster, Josh Addo Carr, Valentine Holmes, Viliame Kikau, Jai Arrow and Ash Taylor are all 23.
Players who missed out: TPJ, Coen Hess, Brodie Croft, Esan Marsters, Cam Murray
The Sharks centre is leaving a path of destruction in his first full season in the NRL. Possibly the toughest man to tackle one on one in his age group, Ramien is a tackle breaking machine. He still has a lot to learn in terms of positioning but he's so big and so quick he's able to adjust quickly and cover space. He will be a superstar at Newcastle.
Talk about announcing yourself to the masses. Radley is probably the most fearsome forward under 23 in the competition. You could not pay me enough to run at him. A hit man despite not being the six foot four, 120 kilo monsters he whacks, Radley is that little dog with the biggest heart. He's got a stack of footy ability beneath those massive shoulders also. At 20 I was at uni. Radley is giving seasoned props nightmares.
The 22-year-old fullback has not only helped soften the blow of Josh Dugan's leaving for the Sharks but he has added a dimension of attack to the Red V that they haven't had for many years. One of the quickest young backs in the comp, blink and Dufty's gone. 16 tries in only 28 games has Dufty ready to explode in his first finals series. The Dragons have fallen off but Dufty's form has been solid.
At 22 years of age, TPJ is forging one super start to his career. Having reportedly agreed to a huge contract extension with the Broncos, he can now focus on belting opponents in September. The Tongan international has possible Origin jerseys in his future if he decides to make the switch to his native New South Wales. TPJ holds a huge role in the Broncos future. Beast.
This one will cause a little controversy but Cotric is probably the most underrated player on this list. The 2017 rookie of the year, Cotric is criminally under used in the nation's capital. Surely a move to fullback is in his not too distant future. A try scoring freak out wide, Cotric is not afraid to put his hand up to do the tough yards. At 19 years of age he is still a few years from his peak. That's scary.
Tommy Turbo's last few weeks are probably a little below par but they should not take away from his talents and achievements. Trbojevic had a wow of an Origin series on debut on the wing. He's been a standout in an otherwise awful Manly side, although his form has suffered under the pressure. The ball playing skills he possesses are unmatched by the large majority of fullbacks across the competition. Huge future.
The best young forward in the game is 22-year-old Bunny Angus Crichton. Making his Origin debut earlier this year was a just reward for the rampaging wide-running second rower. He has signed a monster deal to move to Bondi next season and his consistent game-breaking performances justify the decision. He is the difference between the Bunnies and a few of the chasing pack. He'll be in the Origin run on side next season.
If you're building a club with an aim to dominate for the next decade, Nathan Cleary is your first point of call. The best young half in the competition, Cleary helped guide a young New South Wales side to Origin glory on the back of a strong 2017 season and finals run. With Matt Moylan out and no set halves partner, he took the Panthers into the second week of the finals for the second season in a row. All that before his 21st birthday.
If I had a blank cheque-book and contracts were voided, 21-year-old Latrell Mitchell's phone would be ringing. This kid is an absolute freak. On Sunday he absolutely monstered one of the best defensive centres in the competition in Euan Aitken. He was the difference in Origin Two and took Will Chambers apart across the series. He is the game's next megastar outside back. Of that I have no doubt.
The undisputed future superstar is 20-year-old Knights and Queensland star Kayln Ponga. Picked for a make-or-break Origin clash in his first full season in the top grade tells you everything you need to know about this kid. The fact he played 50 minutes in the middle, in the toughest arena in rugby league, making a line break that almost turned the series, just proves all the hype is spot on. His signature has completely turned football around for those on the Hunter. There is literally no limit to what he can achieve.
