Despite turning 34 in November and playing more games for the Rabbitohs than any player in the club's long history, South Sydney's premiership winning captain John Sutton is hopeful he can play on in 2019.

Sutton was an integral part of the Rabbits' 22-14 win over Cronulla on Friday night, and has played every game under Anthony Seibold this season.

The forward is just five games away from game 300, and many of his teammates and opponents still believe Sutton can go around again.

“I think he is pretty keen to play on, he is playing oustanding,” Seibold told the media post-game on Friday night.

“I have only had a brief conversation with him but I know he is keen to play on.”

Teammate Sam Burgess added “John Sutton is playing probably the best football I have seen him play for a couple of years”.

Even opposition veteran Paul Gallen had positive words for Sutton.

"He is playing some of the best footy I have seen him play," Gallen said.

"He was a five-eighth when he first started but he is playing tough now, which is what their whole team is doing.

“The Burgess boys are playing good footy, the two front rowers [George and Tom] are playing well and Sam, after last year in his first year back [from rugby union], is going well.”
