Dane Gagai has told of Melbourne Storm centre Will Chambersโ intimidating sledging ability.
When quizzed on sledging in the NRL at Kayoโs launch of the 2019 NRL season, Gagai told news.com.au that Chambers takes the cake as having the most cutting tongue, even suggesting the Queensland Origin star prepares material for his opponents.
โWill Chambers (is the best sledger), I actually think he does homework and studies players on some little things about what he can say to them and how he can get under their skin,โ he said.
โHe loves a good sledge, heโd be the number one.โ
Gagai recounted a matchup with Billy Slater when playing against the Storm, illustrating how Chambers didnโt even need words to humiliate his opponents.
โI know the type of person he (Chambers) is and how he loves sledging people and there was a time when I thought Billy Slater was going to put some footwork on me so Iโve planted my feet, waiting to see if heโs going left or right.
โAnd Slaterโs run straight into me and sat me on my back.
โSomething happened, the play stopped, and I just knew Will was coming up with something, so I looked over and he was just looking at me laughing.
โThatโs the one that always sticks with me.โ
Chambers and the Storm looked impressive in their round one victory over the Broncos on Thursday night, while Gagaiโs Souths will face the Roosters to kick off their season on Friday.
I don’t know about being the biggest sledger but he certainly is the biggest GRUB in the game at the moment.
What about all the other grubs that canโt play This year ๐ heโs not that bad when you think of them peanuts๐ก
It’s a bit rich if he is the biggest sledger in the game – he cost Melbourne a premiership by not passing inside to Cronk. How does he explain that?
I think he was referring to on field antics, and in that regard Chambers is definitely right up there
He cost them a grand final last year with an all round shocker of a game against the Roosters.๐๐
wonder what super-sledge he said to Latrell in Origin.
