Outgoing Dragon and star Cronulla Sharks recruit Cameron McInnes has suffered a ruptured ACL at training, as first reported by Fox Sports' Lara Pitt.

Pitt posted the unfortunate injury news on Twitter on Friday afternoon, reporting that he will be sidelined for the 2021 season.

"Breaking: Cameron McInnes has ruptured ACL at training today. Scans confirm he’ll be out for the season," she tweeted.

The 27-year old had just signed a reported four-year $2 million deal with Cronulla from the 2022 season.

The Dragons confirmed the setback in a statement.

“St George Illawarra have provided the following injury update on Cameron McInnes, who has ruptured his anterior cruciate ligament,” the club revealed.

“McInnes suffered the injury during a training session on Friday morning.

“The 27-year-old is yet to undergo follow up consultations to establish the next steps in his recovery and return to play time frame.”

McInnes has played 130 NRL games since making his first-grade debut in 2014, originally crossing from South Sydney to the Red V at the end of 2016.
