The loss of Issac Luke to the New Zealand Warriors was somewhat offset by the return of Sam Burgess following a stint in rugby union but the Rabbitohs 2016 season never really took off.
After finishing the 2016 season in 12th spot, the Rabbitohs will be looking to win more games in 2017 but with a very similar lineup, can they do it?
Fast forward 12 months and the South Sydney Rabbitohs will enter Round 1 of 2017 with a near identical team as 2016.
The backline could end up being the exactly the same with Greg Inglis, Cody Walker and Adam Reynolds the catalyst in the Rabbitohs attack.
Likewise, the forward pack looks eerily similar with troubled players Paul Carter and Chris Grevsmuhl no long with the club, likely to replaced by new signing Robbie Rochow and young gun Angus Crichton.
The only real change between the two lineups is the addition of Robbie Farah at hooker. Farah's departure from the Wests Tigers will have left him with a burning desire to prove to former coach Jason Taylor and himself that he still has plenty to offer.
