Sam Burgess is set to vacate the No. 13 jersey this season as South Sydney look to give rookie Cameron Murray room to grow.
'Slammin Sam' floated around the forward pack early in his NRL career, but made a full-time move into the middle third in 2014, a career-defining season for the Englishman.
Burgess ran for an average of 158m and made 35 tackles a game as he led South Sydney to a drought-breaking premiership.
But with Angus Crichton set to depart Redfern, it leaves a vacant spot on the right edge to be filled.
Head coach Anthony Seibold has already thrown up Felise Kaufusi as a potential recruit to fill the void, but after junior Cameron Murray's strong start to his NRL career, Seibold is set to look for a replacement in-house.
Murray started at lock four times in his maiden season, making over 100m and over 40 tackles in three of the games.
Originally touted for a return to the front-row, it appears Burgess will now shift the edges with the Burgess twins, Zane Musgrove and Mark Nichols set to fill the prop positions.
Both back-row positions will be up for grabs in 2019, with club stalwart John Sutton set to hang up the boots at season's end.
Murray will miss this weekend's Charity Shield clash with a quad strain, but is still expected to line up for the Round 1 clash with the New Zealand Warriors in Perth.
