South Sydney veteran Sam Burgess has been hit with a grade two charge for his tackle on Cronulla's Matt Moylan in Saturday night's clash.

He is facing one or two matches on the sidelines depending on his plea ahead of the judiciary hearing on Tuesday night.

Burgess whacked Moylan high in the fourth minute of the contest, with the Sharks fullback taken off for an HIA.

Moylan was eventually allowed to play out the game.

“I’m not happy with that,” Bennett said post-game.

“Sam’s been out for a number of weeks and I just wanted him to come back and lead us from the front and stay within the rules of the game.

“He’ll have to get that off his conscious I suppose. It’s not what we needed at the time. There’s no reason for it.

“His aggression is important. I want him to play with aggression. I want them all to play for aggression but there are rules and you need to stay within those parameters.”

The base penalty for Burgess' charge is 150 points, however, he carries over 50 per cent loading for a prior similar offence in the last two years.

If he takes the early plea he will miss next weekend's blockbuster clash with the Melbourne Storm.

If he unsuccessfully fights the charge, he will miss the next two matches.
