Paterson made his NRL debut in round two, 2007 with the Newcastle Knights, and impressed during his first two seasons at the club, before being selected in the Prime Minister's XIII to play Papua New Guinea.
The Perth-born second-rower played 77 games for the Knights during his five-year career with the club, before being released from his contract and taking up an offer to play for the Cowboys.
He played 10 matches for North Queensland before embarking overseas, playing for Hull Kingston Rovers in the Super League.
Paterson would make one more stop in the NRL in 2014 where he played for the Wests Tigers, before going back to England to play for Salford and Leigh Centurions.
The 30-year-old currently plays for the Toronto Wolfpack in the Rugby League Championship and was on hand for Zero Tackle to give us his predictions for Round 4 of the NRL season.

Cowboys vs Panthers
1300SMILES Stadium, 8.05pm
"Cowboys will be too strong at home and ready to make up after a tough loss last week. Nathan Cleary is a huge loss for the Panthers."
Tip: Cowboys by 12
Rabbitohs vs Bulldogs
ANZ Stadium, 4.10pm

Tip: Rabbitohs by 8
Sharks vs Storm
Southern Cross Group Stadium, 7.50pm
"It’s always hard picking against the Storm and I just think they’ll be too good for most teams this year. Sharks are a good side but Storm just to clinical."
Tip: Storm by 4
Roosters vs Warriors
Allianz Stadium, 5.30pm
"Going Roosters purely because it’s in Sydney. Warriors are red hot and could cause an upset. Both sides playing exciting footy."
Tip: Roosters by 12
Sea Eagles vs Raiders
Lottoland, 7.30pm
"Both teams will want to bounce back but I think Manly will win. Showed signs early in the year they can do it."
Tip: Manly by 10
Dragons vs Knights
WIN Stadium, 4.10pm
"Dragons are on fire but I can’t go past my old team the Knights. I think they would have learnt a lot from their game against the Roosters and will be better for it."
Tip: Knights by 10
Broncos vs Titans
Suncorp Stadium, 6.30pm
"Broncos will be too good at home. The local derby is always a great game but think the Broncos defence will be the difference."
Tip: Broncos by 4.
Wests Tigers vs Eels
ANZ Stadium, 4.00pm
"The Eels are due a win but with Hayne out that will be even harder. Tigers should get the win."
