Former Canterbury Bulldog and Wests Tiger Josh Reynolds has officially split with Hull FC, with the club confirming his immediate departure overnight.
Reynolds was contracted until the end of this year with the club holding an option for 2023, however, with that option not set to be taken, and Reynolds struggling enormously for form, the club and player have decided an immediate release was the best course of action.
Reynolds was believed to be the highest-paid signature in the club's history, having joined ahead of the 2021 season after a failed stint with the Wests Tigers in the NRL.
A former State of Origin player, Reynolds has played just 25 games during his 18 months in England, struggling as a result of both injuries and form.
The club released a short statement to confirm the news.
"Hull FC can confirm that Josh Reynolds has left the club with immediate effect," the statement read.
"Both parties have mutually agreed that the Australian will not be staying with the club for the 2023 Betfred Super League season.
"As a result of that agreement, the club has further agreed with the player that he can depart immediately to open up pathways for future talent in the squad.
"Since arriving at the MKM Stadium in 2021, Reynolds made 25 appearances for Hull, scoring seven tries.
"The club would like to thank Josh for his efforts, whilst wishing him luck for the future."
Hull currently sit fifth on the Super League table with 8 wins from their 15 games and will be in the battle for a finals position in what is a logjam on the ladder, with Castleford and cross-town rivals Hull KR both within a single win.
Reynolds' next move is unclear.
It has been reported that he will return to Australia, however, given his form and injury history, it's unlikely that any NRL club would currently be willing to shell out for him to join them, even on a short-term dash to the finals this season.
