The Tigers and Eels are leading the race to sign try-scoring machine Robert Jennings, should South Sydney fail to make room in their salary cap for the 22-year-old.
According to The Daily Telegraph, Jennings and the Rabbitohs have agreed to a one-year extension for 2019, although the contract cannot be registered with the NRL until the Bunnies make room in the cap for the winger.
South Sydney will need to open up just over $250,000 of space, with his future still up in the air.
Jennings wants to remain at Redfern and play under Wayne Bennett, but understands he'll just have to bide his time until he has a definitive answer on his Rabbitohs future.
“Right now, I’m not signed for next season, no. I was looking to stay at South Sydney but they’ve got some cap issues so I’m just waiting to see if something can get sorted out,” Jennings told The Daily Telegraph last week.
“Things have been pretty stressful but I’m just trying to keep my head up and focus on getting my body right for next year, wherever I’m playing.”
Parramatta have enough room in their cap to signing Jennings, who would join brothers Michael and George at the Eels should they persuade him to join the club.
The Wests Tigers could bring in Jennings under Michael Maguire, with the new Tigers coach a fan of the winger.
South Sydney still have a position for Jennings available should they find room in their cap, given they have two open spots in their to 30 squad for 2019.
