Melbourne Storm skipper Cameron Smith is set to extend his career into the 2020 NRL season, according to a report by Triple M's James Hooper.
Out of contract at the end of this season, Smith is reportedly set to ink a two-year extension with Melbourne.
The 35-year old veteran retired from representative football just weeks out of game one of this year's State of Origin series, in what looks to be a bid to continue his career at the Storm.
Smith would be 37 years old by the end of the 2020 fixture and would become the first player to reach 400 games. The 2020 season would be his 19th in the league.
And Hooper is backing in Smith to reach that mark.
“We just spoke a moment ago about Cameron Smith, and the fact that it looks as though he is definitely going to go for another couple of seasons,” Hooper told Triple M.
“So, look, as it stands at the moment, Cameron’s played 372 NRL games which is clearly a massive, massive achievement.
“But beyond that, if he plays every game for the rest of this season, he’ll go past 380.
“Then, from what I’m hearing at the moment, I think he’s definitely going to play next season and most likely even a season beyond that, provided his body holds up.”
