Newcastle fan favourite Nathan Ross has suffered another injury setback, and this one could potentially have the 30-year-old considering retirement.

Ross' latest setback has seen him re-tear his previously injured groin, which may be severe enough to require surgery.

The veteran winger was already ruled out of Newcastle's 14-8 win over Cronulla on Friday night with a compound finger dislocation, although the Newcastle HeraldĀ understand Ross' latest injury could spell the end of his career.

That will depend however on whether or not Ross could apply for a medical retirement, meaning he would then be paid out the remainder of his contract in full.

However, is specialists believe Ross can get back to full fitness through surgery, the speedy outside back would need to go down that path.

Ross played just 15 games in 2018, and is now in a tough battle for a spot in the backline after the Knights added Edrick Lee and Hymel Hunt in the off-season.
