Parramatta captain Clint Gutherson still remains unsigned for next season, with both the Eels and Gutherson's manager Sam Ayoub yet to agree on a contract extension.

According to The Daily Telegraph, Ayoub has said other clubs are circling the 24-year-old, although Gutherson met with the Eels earlier this week to discuss his future.

The Eels' first offer wasn't enough to secure the fullback, and while there's still plenty of time for the two parties to agree an extension, that still won't stop rivals clubs from keeping an eye on the situation.

With North Queensland also keeping tabs on NFL-hopeful and former Cronulla star Valentine Holmes, News Corp understand they could also be after Gutherson, given his youth and versatility.

Cowboys coach Paul Green was asked about Gutherson on Friday during a press conference, and while he didn't speak about the recruitment side of the story, he was quick to praise the Eels star.

“He’s a good player. (Recruiting him) hasn’t been mentioned to me but he’s certainly a good player,” Green said.

Regardless of Gutherson's situation, the Cowboys have Holmes in their sights and is their number one option to take over at fullback in the future.

Gutherson is still holding out hope a deal can be done with the Eels, recently telling the Sydney Morning Herald that loyalty is a big factor in his decision making.
