Shane Flanagan is set to be banned from the NRL indefinitely.

The Sharks coach and officials from the club have been asked to attend a meeting at League Central where Flanagan’s fate will be learned.

If banned, Cronulla would be left without a coach with less than three months until the beginning of the 2019 season.

The decision will come following the discovery of texts between Flanagan and the Sharks during his 12-month ban in 2014.

Following the peptides scandal, Flanagan returned to the Sharks and led them to a grand final win over the Storm in 2016.

The indefinite nature of the ban will mean that Flanagan will need to prove that he is a ‘fit and proper’ person in order to coach in the NRL again.

Should Flanagan choose to appeal the sanction he would remain banned from Cronulla training and games until the completion of the process.
