REPORTS: Cowboys set to take “huge whack” at landing two superstars

There's no secret the Cowboys are interested in bringing Valentine Holmes to 1300SMILES Stadium, although they could also be making a play for Melbourne Storm star Cameron Munster on November 1.

Munster is contracted at the Storm for the 2019 season but will hit the open market on the first of November, and at least seven clubs are interested in the Maroons Origin star according to Fox Sports.

However, given the Cowboys have freed up salary cap space with nine departures from the 2018 squad, The Daily Telegraph's Phil Rothfield believes they could splash the cash and potentially lure the pair to north Queensland for the 2020 campaign.

“There’s some big things happening in North Queensland, Thurston is gone, Linnett and Winterstein, so they’ve only picked up Ben Barba on a one-year-deal,” Rothfield told NRL 360.

“The reason being is they’re desperate to sign Valentine Holmes, but add to him Cameron Munster. I really think they’re going to have a huge whack at both of them.

“Matt Scott, who is on huge money, is going into hospital next week for neck surgery. I think there’s a slight doubt that he’ll play next year, let alone 2020, depending on the outcome of the neck surgery.

“Don’t think they’re just chasing Holmes, Munster too. They’re very keen on it and cashed up.”
