Former coach of the Wests Tigers Tim Sheens could be making a return to Leichhardt, reports the Sydney Morning Herald.

A premiership-winning coach with the Wests Tigers in 2005, Sheens has been sacked by Super League battlers Hull KR, according to the report.

Sheens had an ugly split with the Tigers in 2012, which ultimately ended in the club paying him a settlement.

The Tigers are seeking a new head of football as Kelly Egan is set to depart, with multiple names in the frame to replace him.

Sheens is in that bracket, as well as Canterbury's former pathways performance manager Andrew Patmore.

However, Tigers chairman Barry O'Farrell was quick to address the speculation, claiming a committee will find the best person for the job.

“No one has to remind me of the bona fides of Tim Sheens, but we’ve formed a committee and there’s a process to go through,” O’Farrell told the Sydney Morning Herald.

“There are already many well credentialled candidates that have expressed an interest and we’ll consider all of the applicants.”

The news of Sheens' possible return, was preceded by big signing news for the Wests Tigers.

The club announced the signing of Jake Simpkin from the Broncos, hailed as one of the best young dummy-halves in the country, on a three year deal.

Tigers fans will get their first glimpse of the youngster in action, when he plays for the Queensland 18s in the State of Origin curtain raiser tonight.

Further changes could also occur at the Tigers, with Panther Dallin Watene-Zelezniak set to move to the club.

“Dallin is a great player, there is word that he’s coming but I’m not too sure what’s going on there,” said Tigers halfback Luke Brooks. “At the same time, we have some great outside backs here.”

Winger David Nofoaluma added: “He’s a quality player. If he was to be here he adds more quality to the team, but for the time being we’ll focus on the group we have here and try to win some games.”
