Parramatta are set to table Clint Gutherson a "make-or-break deal", reports the Daily Telegraph.
It is understood that the revised contract would be the most the Eels are willing to offer Gutherson and will therefore determine whether or not the skipper hits the open market.
Gutherson is reportedly seeking a deal worth $750,000 a year and will begin negotiations with other clubs should Parramatta offer anything less.
“The ball is in their court,’’ Gutherson’s manager Sam Ayoub told the Daily Telegraph.
“We are not in a hurry and it is all up to them right now. We are waiting on Parramatta. We are expecting a new offer to come in and hopefully it reflects is worth as both a player and a leader. I spoke to Mark O’Neill and he said he would send something over early in the week.’’
Gutherson rejected Parramatta's initial two-year offer worth $450,000 a season, which got upped to $500,000.
The Daily Telegraph is reporting that a rival club has already indicated that they would be prepared to pay Gutherson $1.5 million over two years.
