Former Canberra Raiders coach David Furner has signed a three-year deal with the Newcastle Knights as an assistant for Adam O’Brien, according to Fox Sports.
O'Brien was appointed as Newcastle's new coach last month after amid another disappointing season at the club spelt the end of Nathan Brown's four-year tenure.
Furner brings a wealth of experience to the Knights, as a member of the North Queensland Cowboys coaching staff during their inaugural premiership triumph in 2015 before moving to South Sydney in 2017-18.
He was an assistant to ex-Kangaroos coach Tim Sheens too.
During his playing days, Furner won a premiership with the Raiders in 1994 to go with the Clive Churchill Medal.
