Sharks hooker Jayden Brailey has agreed to a three-year deal with the Knights, according to a report by The Newcastle Herald.
However, it is believed that the deal will not be announced yet.
Cronulla will first need to release Brailey from the final year of his contract.
Newcastle can't publicise the deal or register it with the NRL until they can show they are salary cap compliant with him on their roster.
Last night, Brailey told ABC Grandstand that the Sharks had given him the green light to talk to other clubs.
“I’m in a bit of a funny position at the moment,” he said.
“I’ve been granted permission to talk to other clubs.
“I’ve got a lot of interest going around at the moment but I’m trying not let that distract me or my football.
“In saying that I’m pretty far from making any decisions and at this stage I’m staying at the Sharks this year and next year.”
