The Canberra Raiders have confirmed the signing of New Zealand Warriors forward Charlie Gubb.

Gubb, 27, made his NRL debut in 2013 and has played 39 NRL matches including 10 for the Warriors in 2017.

He said the opportunity to join the Raiders was too good to refuse and said he can’t wait to join the club at the end of the season and commence training for 2018.

“I’m really excited to be joining Canberra, they’re building a really strong culture there and I want to be a part of it,” Gubb said. “The roster they have is awesome, the forwards are big and powerful and the backs are very skillful and talented. I know I’m going to have my work cut out for me to break into the side because their feeder team Mounties are also really strong.”

Gubb said a discussion with Head Coach Ricky Stuart made the decision to move to Canberra an easy one and said he’s looking forward to working with Ricky, the coaching staff and playing group.

“Ricky spoke to me about his plans and where he thinks I can fit in. He was very honest and open with me which is great and I’m really looking forward to working hard for him and the rest of the team once I get to Canberra.”

Raiders Recruitment & High-Performance Director Peter Mulholland said the signing of Gubb was a strong one for the Raiders and said he’s excited about him joining the clubs roster.

“Charlie comes to the club as a mature forward who is just starting to hit his NRL playing potential,” Mulholland said. “He’s a fierce competitor and a player who we believe can make an impact at the Raiders if given the opportunity. He’s keen to get started here in Canberra and I know he’s willing to work hard to try and break into the team.”

Gubb has signed for the Raiders in 2018, with the club having the option to sign him for the 2019 season. He will commence training with the Raiders at the beginning of the pre-season, the Raiders wish him all the best for his final game for the Warriors this weekend.
