Canberra Raiders duo Elliott Whitehead and Ryan Sutton are set to sign contract extensions that will see them remain at the club until the end of the 2022 season.

The pair were originally signed on until the end of 2020 but have added a further two years to their deals.

Whitehead said he never considered the nation's capital.

โ€œIโ€™ve absolutely loved my time at the Raiders so far, so to extend for another two seasons is fantastic and I know weโ€™re on the right path to achieving success,โ€ Whitehead told the club website.

โ€œIโ€™ve seen this squad grow into something special over the past few seasons and I really wanted to make sure I stayed in Canberra and be a part of what weโ€™re building. I didnโ€™t want to go anywhere else.

โ€œItโ€™s great news to get the deal sorted and my focus is now on having a really strong finals series for the Raiders and hopefully helping the club win a competition.โ€

After crossing from Wigan at the end of last season, Sutton was happy with his debut season at the Raiders.

โ€œI set my sights on coming out to Australia and getting my foot in the door with the Raiders and Iโ€™ve been lucky enough to play more games than I expected in my first year,โ€ Sutton said.

โ€œItโ€™s my goal now to keep getting better and better each year of this contract and hopefully establishing myself as an NRL player for the rest of my career.โ€

โ€œI really want to thank Ricky and the coaching staff for giving me the opportunity and Iโ€™m looking forward to becoming a better player in the future for the Raiders.โ€

  1. Canberra building towards a premiership. Might not be this year but certainly a super power next season with another Englishman arriving. Plus this years big match experience.
