Wayne Bennett has confirmed that South Sydney’s biggest stars including Sam Burgess, Cody Walker, Damien Cook and Adam Reynolds have all asked their coach to play in John Sutton's testimonial match on Saturday.

"They all want to play out of respect to John Sutton. It is his testimonial and they think the world of him," Bennett told The Daily Telegraph.

"A number of senior players have put their hands up wanting to play.

"I just have to work it out, talk to them during the week and respect their wishes.

"They probably won’t play long minutes, but if they want to play they will play."

Despite his desire to play, Reynolds may be unable to, as he continues to nurse a shoulder complaint.

Burgess had also missed England’s recent Test series against New Zealand with shoulder and wrist injuries but has had an uninterrupted preseason with the Bunnies.

Sutton, the Souths record-holder for games played at the club, is still undecided if this will be his final year in the NRL after recently signing on for 2019.

The trial match against Penrith will be held at the Rabbitohs’ spiritual home at Redfern Oval, kicking off at 6pm.

Part of the proceeds of the match will be donated to the Souths Cares and Panthers on the Prowl charities.
