The Rabbitohs have signed exciting Papua New Guinea prospect Edene Gebbie on a two-year deal beginning in 2020.
The 24-year old made his international Test debut against Samoa in the Oceania Test series earlier this year and has spent the past two seasons playing in Queenslandโs ISC competition.
A fullback or winger, Gebbie was being pursued by a number of NRL rivals before ultimately commuting to South Sydney.
โEdene is an exciting prospect and weโre looking forward to seeing him develop his skills over the next two years under the guidance of our coaching staff,โ Rabbitohs GM of football Shane Richardson told the club website.
โHe has scored 19 tries in 29 games over the past two seasons with his sides winning 22 of those 29 games in which he has played. His speed and hard running are his major assets and weโre sure that he can add more strings to his bow in our system.
โHe brings with him international experience and with some refinement of his game, as well surrounding him in a full-time professional environment, weโre certain he has what it takes to move towards an NRL debut.
โHis signing is another example of our recruitment plan to introduce players to our squad with great pedigrees and great character. Weโre all keen to see what Edene can achieve at our Club.โ
He was named rookie of the year for the PNG Hunters last year and leads the Wynnum-Manly Seagulls in almost all of the attacking attacking stats of the competition in 2019.
