Penrith has asked the NRL for a speedy resolution regarding a punishment over Tyrone May's sex tape scandal.

It is believed the 22-year-old's mental well-being has deteriorated since finding himself in hot water after two videos, believed to be nine months old, surfaced last week.

Concern over May's condition has prompted the Panthers to ask that a league decision be made as soon as possible.

The NRL said it will endeavour to investigate the situation quickly.

"We will conduct the inquiry with Penrith this week and look to conclude it as soon as practical," a spokesman said to the Daily Telegraph.

May is expected to face the league's integrity unit in the near future, potentially as soon as Monday.

It is believed the club will decide whether or not to impose a sanction on the promising five-eighth once the league has done so.

The Panthers open their 2019 campaign at home against Parramatta on Sunday, March 17.
