The Newcastle Knights admit they are likely to rethink their plan to sign Matt Scott following the news that the North Queensland Cowboys prop will have season-ending surgery.
The Knights had been rumoured to have offered Scott a three-year deal worth $2.1 million, which would be larger than any offer the Cowboys could afford.
Scott will be 32 years old next season and coming off the back of major knee surgery. Any club signing him would be taking a major risk.
Speaking to the Newcastle Herald, Knights coach Nathan Brown seem unsure of the club's position towards Matt Scott in regards to the injury news.
“Obviously that’s going to be up for discussion,’’ Brown said.
“He’s been a player that we’ve spoken about numbers of times. When you sign all players, you look to talk to them on the back of the medical type of things.
“I’m not sure where any of that is at, and whether he has done his knee or not, because these things have been proven to have been gotten wrong before.
“But all those things will come into discussion, I’m sure.’’
