After months of speculation that Anthony Milford would move to the Super League, reports have emerged that he will now remain at The Dolphins for the time being.
Brought into the Dolphins setup as a marquee signing, he failed to cement his spot in the team and was sensationally sent down to reserve grade for the club's first three games.
This was due to a reported poor attitude, and he would only be called up due to injuries in the squad, playing second-fiddle toย Isaiya Katoaย andย Sean O'Sullivan.
Although he played mainly off the interchange in his 11ย NRL games this season, Milford managed to score three tries, force five dropouts, and provide five try assists and five line breaks, showing moments of brilliance. However, he would still be on the outs at the club.
Contracted until the end of 2024, Milford was linked with a release to the Leigh Leopardsย in theย Super League, where he could have partnered withย Lachlan Lam.
However, League Expressย has revealed that Anthony Milford will stay with The Dolphins for the time being after a deal involving him and the Leigh Leopards has fallen through.
This comes after the Leopards signed upcoming halfback Ben McNamara, who spent time at the Sydney Roosters in his junior days. However, the club is reportedly still looking elsewhere for a new halfback to accompany Lachlan Lam in the halves.
Milford, who has played 219ย NRL games, will still likely play a role for the Dolphins in 2024, given the club's relative lack of depth in the halves, as he pushes for a new deal to extend his career into 2025.
He can play in the halves, at fullback or at hooker and has the talent to tear down the opponents' defence. Only 29, he is a former Samoa and Queensland representative and has played forย The Dolphins, Raiders, Broncos and Knights over the course of his career.
