Newcastle centre Tautau Moga's future at the Knights is in doubt after he was charged with common assault on Boxing Day last year.
Moga allegedly "slapped" a taxi driver after a day at the races, and is set to appear in local court on March 21.
The NRL integrity unit is aware of the charge, and the club are co-operating with police, according to the Sydney Morning Herald.
‘‘We have been notified of an incident and we expect the player to be charged if he hasn’t already been,’’ Knight's CEO Phil Gardner told the Herald.
‘‘We won’t take any direct action against the player until that plays out. My understanding is he slapped a taxi driver.
‘‘If he pleads guilty then we will deal with it under our new behaviour policy.’’
In addition to his statement, Gardner would not rule out the possibility of Moga being sacked by the club.
