Josh McGuire has landed himself in hot water again after being charged by the league match review committee for an eye-gouge on Queensland teammate David Fifita.

Following a tackle on Fifita, McGuire appeared to put his hand on the face of the Broncos' star during Brisbane's 18-4 win over North Queensland on Thursday night.

The NRL match review committee charged McGuire with a grade two contrary conduct charge, meaning McGuire could miss up to four weeks.

The Cowboys star will miss the three matches if he enters an early guilty plea, but could add another week if he chooses to fight the charge and loses his case.

McGuire has been surrounded with criticism having been involved in two similar instances this season for a total of $7,850 in fines.

In round five, McGuire was fined $3,350 for eye-gouging fellow Maroon Cam Munster, and soon found himself in trouble again with a similar incident on Manly's Dylan Walker in Round 13, copping a $4,500 fine.
