Penrith five-eighth Tyrone May has been hit with additional charges relating to the alleged leaking of sex tapes earlier this year, according to the Daily Telegraph.

Back in March, May was charged with two counts of recording an intimate image without consent and two counts of distributing an intimate image without consent, but now faces eight charges in total after the police laid additional counts of the same charge against the 23-year-old.

May has been stood down under the "no-fault" policy of the NRL, and will not be allowed to play again until the matter is resolved.

Reports believe the additional charges are related to the same alleged victims.

Police allege May filmed two separate sexual encounters with women last year, and while they believe the sex was consensual, police allege neither woman knew they were being filmed.

May has pleaded not guilty to the initial charges, but is yet to submit a plea for the new charges.
