James Maloney could end his contract with Penrith a year early to join a Super League team.

Maloney expects to see out the remainder of his contract which is valid until the end of 2020, but has an ambition to play the final years of his career in England and could be persuaded to end his contract early if the right deal was made.

"As far as I'm concerned, I've got every intention of seeing out my contract at Penrith, then play a few years in the Super League. That's always been the plan,'' Maloney told The Sydney Morning Herald.

The re-signing of Jarome Luai until the end of 2021 has given Maloney confidence the Panthers have prepared his replacement for when he does depart the club.

"Jarome Luai is there and he's re-signed with the club, and he'll be there to take over, but I'm sure he also re-signed knowing I've got two more years on my contract," Maloney told The Sydney Morning Herald.

"From my perspective, I'm here for two years, as far as I know the club want me for another two years, and the only thing that would bring a call forward was if for some reason I thought the body was getting knocked around too much.''
