Penrith veteran James Maloney is set to miss the Panthers' round 11 clash with Parramatta next Thursday after being hit with a grade one dangerous contact charge.

In the 50th minute of his side's clash with the Warriors on Friday night, Maloney laid a hit on New Zealand five-eighth Kodi Nikorima after he had released the ball, with the late tackle seeing him cop a one-game suspension.

Given he has 70 carry-over points, an early-guilty plea will still see Maloney miss one match, which means he'll have to fight the charge and win in order to be available to face Parramatta.

If Maloney missed the match next week, then Friday's performance against the Warriors will be his last game before the NSW Origin team is announced.
