Queensland legend Mal Meninga is pushing for Broncos skipper Darius Boyd to come out of Origin retirement and don the Maroons jumper this season.
Meninga believes that Boyd still belongs on the representative stage, particularly to a Queensland team in need of leadership.
“Darius has a lot to offer,” Meninga told the Former Origin Greats website.
“He is his own man, which I admire, and he made the decision to retire on his terms.
“I guess Darius will have to make that decision if he’s available again but he wouldn’t look out of place in an Origin jersey, that’s for sure.”
Reeling from the losses of Billy Slater and Valentine Holmes, the Maroons will be keen to avenge their 2-1 series loss to New South Wales last year.
Boyd would serve as the ideal fullback or winger for Kevin Walters' team, having reportedly overcome his history of hamstring issues.
The 32-year old recently stated he is "back in love" with the game after training the house down over the pre-season at Brisbane.
Boyd has appeared in a total of 28 Origin games while scoring 17 tries, just one short of Greg Inglis' record.
