Brisbane’s Matt Lodge has been slapped with a two-week suspension following a shocking tackle on Melbourne’s Cameron Munster in the NRL season opener on Thursday night.
In determining the sanction, the NRL match review committee deemed the tackle worthy of a grade two dangerous contact charge.
The incident occurred in the opening minutes of the Broncos’ defeat, when Lodge took Munster’s legs out as the Storm five-eighth made a clearing kick.
An early plea will incur a 210 point punishment, while a guilty plea if he fights the charges would attract 280 points under the NRL’s Judiciary Code.
