Queensland coach Kevin Walters says he's committed to his role despite a heartbreaking loss on Wednesday night to New South Wales in the Origin decider.

After seeing former Queensland greats move on from the game in recent years, Walters has said he's invested in rebuilding their side for future years even if clubs offer him a role, likely deterring any potential offers.

"I'll be back next year," he told NRL.com post-match.

"We made some good progress this year, if you look back the last couple of years with the changing of the guard I thought we made some small steps last year but some even bigger ones this year with the group that we've brought through and I want to be part of that next year with the Maroons moving forward."

New South Wales won game three in the final minutes as James Tedesco scored a late try to halt a Reds comeback and seal the series win.

"This series has been a really enjoyable one. The result is going to hurt for a long time – I'll remember this for a long time," Queensland skipper Daly Cherry-Evans said.

"But I'd love to get an opportunity to win a series with Kevvie as my coach."

Walters rejected rumours he was linked with a Gold Coast coaching job following his sides Origin loss.
