Roosters five-eighth Luke Keary has detailed the full extent of the ankle injury which hampered him throughout Sydney's run to back-to-back premierships.

The 27-year-old is believed to have been hindered by a syndesmosis complaint which may see him go under the knife, but still managed to play 80 minutes in Sydney's six-point grand final win over Canberra.

He played a vital role in securing the victory, setting up the winning score late in the game.

Keary said the ailment created a number of issues during the game.

"I knew I was going to play but it was worse than I thought it was going to be tonight," Keary toldĀ NRL.com.

"I didn't think I was too bad but that you probably can't see up high, there's things I can't do.

"I couldn't run from left to right, I couldn't prop on my left foot."

Keary enjoyed another strong season in 2019, playing 22 games and scoring two tries.
