Sharks co-captain Paul Gallen will play on into a 19th NRL season for the club in 2019, as reported by NRL.com.

The 37-year old made his NRL debut in 2001 and has since played in 25 Origin matches for the Blues and totalled 32 caps for Australia.

It comes after the star lock told Nine Network's 100% Footy on Monday that coach Shane Flanagan left the ball in his court and that he wanted to make a call prior to the team's finals campaign.

The veteran has played 321 NRL games, which ranks fourth all-time, and led the Sharks to their only premiership in 2016.

He is set to surpass Andrew Ettingshausen's club record of 328 appearances for Cronulla.
