Brisbane's Jack Bird will hope to return to an NRL field before the season is out, after undergoing surgery to mend his sternum on Monday.
Bird has been in pain for the past few weeks, and underwent the knife on Monday in a bid to sure up the stability of his chest.
Following on from the procedure, Bird will now be sidelined for at least another six weeks, while the injury heals.
The centre has played eight games for the Broncos this season although he's yet to score a try.
Bird hasn't featured for Brisbane since their round 10 loss to Manly.
In other injury news at the Broncos, Tevita Pangai junior will miss Tonga's clash with Samoa due to a rib injury.
Good news for Kotoni Staggs however, as he should be fit for selection ahead of the Broncos' clash with the Raiders on June 30.
