Parramatta Eels star Jarryd Hayne's current battle against a rape civil lawsuit is headed to a jury trial in California after he and the accuser failed to resolve the matter in mediation.
The proposed court dates indicate that the trial may not be held until late 2019 or 2020, with the two parties yet to agree on the number of days required for trial.
"Plaintiff anticipates the trial needing no more than five days where the defendant anticipates a trial by jury of 7-8 days in length excluding jury selection," the lawyers wrote.
The alleged victim has made the claim that Hayne raped her back in 2015 when he was living in the US at the time during his playing tenure with the San Francisco 49ers in the NFL.
The lawyers wrote that Haynes committed the alleged sexual assault act at his place of residence after a night out with the accuser and mutual friends.
"Defendant denies this allegation," his lawyers wrote.
The lawyers explained to the court that the party conducted mediation talks on May 14, but were unsuccessful and could potentially attempt a second mediation talk in the future.
The plaintiff is seeking monetary damages, however, the amount has not been disclosed to the court at this point in time.
Hayne denies the woman's claims and alleges that she "willingly engaged in sexual interaction that did not include sexual intercourse."
