Leeds Rhinos have been given a major boost ahead of their Super 8s Qualifier game against Batley tonight with the news that James Segeyaro, 25, has agreed a new two-year contract with the club.
The hooker, who joined the club this season on loan from Penrith Panthers has made a huge impact for the Rhinos and has been an ever-present since making his debut against Hull FC, helping the side to a seven-match unbeaten run.
Speaking about the new deal Leeds Rhinos Chief Executive, Gary Hetherington said: โThe intention when James joined us in July was for him to be with us until at least the end of 2018, but given he had never been to England before, it was sensible for both him and the club to use this season to ensure both parties were committed to the future, and Iโm very happy to say, that has proved to be the case.
โJames has settled in well and he has made a big contribution to the team performance.ย Heโs a World Class talent and this is good news for Leeds Rhinos and Super League.โ
Segeyaro, who has registered four tries in the Rhinosโ last three games, said he is delighted to have agreed a new deal with the club.
โIโve really enjoyed my time so far in Leeds and Iโm here to win trophies with the Rhinos and play in the big games.ย Hopefully, we can have a strong finish to this season and Iโm really excited about 2017.โ
Rhinos Head Coach, Brian McDermott, added: โItโs great to have secured Jamesโ services for the next two seasons.ย Heโs been a very influential player for us since he signed for the club and he is a great character to have around the camp.ย The standard of the competition will no doubt improve again next season and to have signed a player of his quality is very significant for us.โ
