Brisbane centre James Roberts had scans on his injured ankle on Friday morning, with the diagnosis revealing better news than the Broncos initially expected.
The scans have revealed no fractures or bone damage to Roberts' ankle, but the 24-year-old does have some ligament damage which could take up to four weeks to heal.
Roberts is expected to spend the new few weeks in the recovery room, and the club has targeted their round 12 match against the Warriors in New Zealand as his return date.
Should Roberts return for that clash, it will be on the weekend before Game 1 of State of Origin.
Roberts has featured in all nine Brisbane games so far this season, and leads the league with eight tries while averaging 135.7 run metres a game.
