Wests Tigers centre Jamal Idris has officially announced his retirement from rugby league, at the young age of 27.

Idris was forced into a premature end to his career after he suffered a severe leg injury early in the year. Since then he's been contributing to the community and was a nominee for the Ken Stephen Medal.

Idris took to Instagram today, reflecting on a wonderful career.

"Thank you all for sharing this game and journey with me unfortunately due to injury it's ended my time at 27 in this great game," he wrote.

"The game has given me so much, more than anything it has given me character a way to express myself and the ability to change the lives of others, but as my brother once told me 'football is a very small part of your life and you will not finish growing when football stops, if anything that is when life will truly begin for you'.

"I just want to thank everyone that has stood by me through the good times and the bad throughout my amazing time in the NRL, so thank you to my amazing family my awesome friends and the truly amazing fans that make the game what it is ... onto
the next chapter where ever that may be."

Idris made his debut for Bulldogs in 2008, appearing in 68 games across four years, before linking up with the Gold Coast Titans where he made 35 appearances. He then transferred down to the foot of the mountain, which saw him feature in 28 games across two years. He was absent for one year from the game, before returning in 2017, and sustaining a severe injury. Idris played a stand-alone game for NSW and a single game for Australia.
