Issac Luke’s future will be decided this week

The Warriors are hoping hooker Issac Luke will sign a one-year contract extension to remain in New Zealand, despite a rival offer from Newcastle.

The club hope to know Luke's plans by Wednesday, with the offer from the Knights reportedly not as strong as it once was.

Both the Knights and Luke are unsure about the deal, with Newcastle a bit concerned about his shoulder (he'll have surgery this Thursday), and Luke not thrilled with the length of the deal.

Given the Warriors are now out of the finals and their offer for Luke has been on the table for some time, coach Stephen Kearney hope to have an answer from Luke and his manager Bruce Sharrock in the coming days.

"We are pretty adamant we want it to come to a head pretty quickly so I would anticipate in the next day or so," Kearney told nzherald.co.nz.

"Just so either way we can all move forward.

"From our point of view we just want to move forward. If he is going to stay, we haven't deviated from what we originally offered, and we'll want an answer pretty shortly."

New Zealand are reportedly close to announcing the signature of off-contract forward Jazz Tevaga, who has been at the club since 2016.
