Cameron Smith and Billy Slater will both be assessed during the week after picking up injuries during Saturday nightโ€™s 20-16 win over Canberra.

Smith left the field early in the second half and did not return as a precaution, with early signs pointing to a suspected slight pectoral strain.

The 34-year-old said the extent of the injury will become clearer once returns home.

โ€œIt is a little bit sore at the momentโ€ฆ I spoke to the doctor and he just thinks it is a slight strain,โ€ Smith said.

โ€œWe will get back to Melbourne tomorrow morning, Iโ€™ll have some scans and we will go from there.

โ€œI think it was more of a precaution thing. I ran out in the second half to see how it was feeling and it was feeling pretty average so we thought it was best I come off.

โ€œThere is still a long way to go in the season so it wasnโ€™t worth the risk to be honest.โ€

Slater left the field on a stretcher in the 51stย minute after receiving a heavy head knock.

The champion fullback gave a โ€˜thumbs upโ€™ as he was carried off and was able to communicate after the game.

He will be closely monitored by the Clubโ€™s medical staff throughout the week.

โ€œHe is a bit dazed at the moment,โ€ Craig Bellamy said.

โ€œIt was a pretty heavy knockโ€ฆ he is talking but he isnโ€™t feeling too good.

โ€œWe will just have to see how he goes throughout the week.โ€
