We continue our which five former players we'd bring back series with the Canterbury Bulldogs.

For those who have missed previous editions, these are players who have stared for the club in the past who would fit into the modern day side to assist them in their journey towards an NRL title.

As I'm in my mid 30s, I'm keeping to players who I've largely seen, and also not including current players who have moved on. Recently retired players won't be considered either. Therefore the likes of Mortimer and Folkes missed out based purely on my not seeing them play live.

5. David Gillespie

Despite the Dogs talents up front, outside of Napa they aren't the most aggressive of packs. Throw in the man known as "cement" and suddenly that run on prop pairing has a few oppositions checking the fixtures list.

I still have a David Gillespie football card from my childhood and even looking at him now its hard to see how a man built as solidly could be so athletically.

Capped 15 times for New South Wales and 16 times for the Kangaroos, Gillespie was an absolute machine. I'd play him at prop in the modern day game and given the Dogs current roster.

It's freaky to think how destructive Cement would have been in the modern day ultra professional sporting era.

He literally missed a finals series and Kangaroos fixtures due to an injury suffered at work. You wouldn't see that in this day and age.
