Greg Inglis is a man of many colours. He started his career in the purple of Melbourne, hasย earned green and gold jerseys and claimed many maroon outfits as well. He captains the red and green, but no matter what colour Inglis wears, he always strikes fear into his opponents. And the case is no different heading into the Four Nations Final.
Losing the fullback spot to fellow Queenslander Darius Boyd, Greg Inglis has shown no lack of motivation over the past five weeks of football. Despite wife Sally giving birth to daughter Quinn only five days before the Test, Inglis still managed to play in the friendly Test in Perth โ and score a brace of tries to earn Man Of The Match honours.
After being rested for the sideโs 54-12 romping over Scotland, Inglis returned to his left centre spot for the clash in the Kiwiโs, another strong performance saw Australia run out 14-8 winners. Despite missing the final 20 minutes due to a concussion, Inglis was the best player on the park for the Kangarooโs final match against England, scoring a pivotal try along with a number of strong carries up the middle.
Averaging over 130 metres and 15 tackles across his three matches, South Sydney fans will see Inglisโ international performances as bittersweet. While enjoying his barnstorming performances, fans of the Rabbitohs will be wondering where this form has been over the 2016 season, with GI suffering through a well-below par season by his standards. Inglis drifted positions throughout the season, enjoying stints at fullback, five-eighth and centre, before returning to the custodian role at seasons end. Only scoring five tries for the Rabbitohs across 20 matches in 2016, Inglis managed to score five tries in rep jumpers โ in just seven games. Whether Inglis is saving himself for rep footy will be a question on all South Sydney supporters heading into 2017.
Inglis will once again combine with Valentine Homes on the Kangarooโs left edge and will look to avenge the 2014 tournament loss against the Kiwis at Anfield Stadium, live at 1AM Monday morning on GEM.
