Live Commentary

FULLTIME - Australia 36 - New Zealand 18
A great performance from the Kangaroos here and they take all the momentum into next Saturday's Pacific Cup final.

80' - Australia 36 - New Zealand 18
CONVERSION MISSED
Holmes misses his first of the night.

80' - Australia 36 - New Zealand 18
TRY! Cameron Murray
It's party time in Melbourne. Cameron Murray has been superb tonight, and runs through the line off a lovely Hynes short ball this time before beating Nicoll-Klokstad to the corner.

Murray has now scored in six straight Tests for Australia.

79' - Australia 32 - New Zealand 18
CONVERSION! Valentine Holmes
The lead pushes back to 14.

78' - Australia 30 - New Zealand 18
TRY! Ben Hunt
Australia get the ball back off a short drop out and as we drop inside the final three minutes, this one is just about done and dusted. A few forwards almost bursting through, then Ben Hunt does. Spins out of dummy half, scores, and that's that.

77' - Australia 26 - New Zealand 18
And that might just about do this one. New Zealand not out of it through a lack of trying, but Australia push back onto the attack, and a grubber forces a drop out.

72' - Australia 26 - New Zealand 18
CONVERSION! Jamayne Isaako
He slots it over from right in front. Eight-point game, eight minutes to go.

71' - Australia 26 - New Zealand 16
TRY! Fa'amanu Brown
Inside the final ten minutes now, with the Kiwis starting to gain a new enemy in the clock. Fisher-Harris almost over, then Fa'amanu Brown does on the next! He finds the grass and New Zealand just keep themselves alive with a try under the sticks.

69' - Australia 26 - New Zealand 12
The Kiwis off the scrum and needing to find points right here, right now. Not much happening on the first three, then the fourth isn't much better despite an offload. Right on five, Hughes to Manu and what a tackle from Tabuai-Fidow. Last play now, Hughes kicks high, and Staggs drops it. The Aussies are then offside with Cotter grabbing the ball from that position.

A penalty New Zealand and more pressure right here.

68' - Australia 26 - New Zealand 12
Short drop out from the hosts, but New Zealand come up with it and will go onto the attack right here. They stay in the middle, then go through the hands to the right, but in the end they wind up dropping the ball on the right... And it's ruled a knock on off Edwards, so the Kiwis stay in possession.

Munster and Tabuai-Fidow both battling cramp as well now.

67' - Australia 26 - New Zealand 12
And Australia leave the door unlocked. Cherry-Evans lets the kick-off bounce, and it clears everyone to go dead.

66' - Australia 26 - New Zealand 12
PENALTY GOAL! Valentine Holmes

65' - Australia 24 - New Zealand 12
Mulitalo appears to be okay, with that being just a cramp. Looks like he will be all good to continue.

64' - Australia 24 - New Zealand 12
New Zealand give away a penalty in possession for an obstruction here. Australia will take a shot at two from 20 out, just to the right, and this could put the ball game to bed.

64' - Australia 24 - New Zealand 12
Another strong set from Australia. They get within 30, then a kick goes to the corner and Mulitalo grabs it. He is slow back to his feet though and then hobbling - doesn't look in a great way.

63' - Australia 24 - New Zealand 12
The Kiwis wind up turning the ball over in a good spot here, but they need more than that - they need points, and they must be next to score.

62' - Australia 24 - New Zealand 12
If Australia score here, it's all over you'd have to assume. It will go to the last tackle after Collins went close, before they swing it left on the last and Tedesco puts the ball down.

61' - Australia 24 - New Zealand 12
Bit of a hold up now as James Fisher-Harris gets cleaned up. He has a pretty significant cut on the head that is bandaged up already.

58' - Australia 24 - New Zealand 12
That's a bad moment for the Kiwis. They come back onto the attack off the penalty, but then, under significant pressure from Munster, Hughes puts a ball down.

57' - Australia 24 - New Zealand 12
And a penalty for New Zealand coming out of trouble.

57' - Australia 24 - New Zealand 12
The Kangaroos back onto the attack with Nicho Hynes onto the field now for the first time in his Test debut as well. And with his first touch, he almost found a gap, but is tackled a few metres out, with New Zealand coming up with the ball on the handover.

56' - Australia 2 4- New Zealand 12
New Zealand manage to clear their own end, but not excellently, and Australia will come back onto the attack here.

55' - Australia 24 - New Zealand 12
Australia now running downhill and threatening to put this game away. All the way back onto thre attack after the penalty, and a kick for the corner is taken luckily in the end by Mulitalo, but they are pinned in the corner.

53' - Australia 24 - New Zealand 12
Going from bad to worse now for the Kiwis. Nelson Asofa-Solomona on report for a dangerous tackle on James Tedesco. Penalty Australia.

52' - Australia 24 - New Zealand 12
CONVERSION! Valentine Holmes
Holmes slots it and the lead is back to two converted tries.

50' - Australia 22 - New Zealand 12
TRY! Dylan Edwards
And it is Australia who will cross to extend their lead. They have certainly been the better team and now have the scoreboard to show it. Edwards crosses in the corner after a lovely sweeping play left. Carrigan, Murray and Tabuai-Fidow setting that one up.

48' - Australia 18 - New Zealand 12
The Australians just threatening here. Good defensive set, then Holmes with a line break to put them back onto the front foot.

47' - Australia 18 - New Zealand 12
So, Australia survive that mini onslaught and now the Kangaroos must work it out of their own end. A real struggle for metres in this set though before Cherry-Evans kicks from inside 40 down to Nicoll-Klokstad who runs it back.

46' - Australia 18 - New Zealand 12
New Zealand back onto the attack after this penalty, and you feel they have to be first to score in the second half. They can't find a way through though, then on the last a grubber is stabbed through and Carrigan dives on it before there is a bit of push and shove between the two sides.

Looks like there was a bit of contact over the top from Fisher-Harris on the ground there that saw the two teams come together, but nothing will come of that.

45' - Australia 18 - New Zealand 12
A two-on-one strip now. Kiwis win a penalty and will have a full set from 40 out.

44' - Australia 18 - New Zealand 12
Now New Zealand muscling up in defence early in this set, and the Kangaroos needing to go to Carrigan and Collins to gain any yardage. Yeo a good run too and that gets the set to halfway before Grant stabs a kick low from dummy half down to Nicoll-Klokstad who runs it back - he has been kept very quiet so far tonight.

43' - Australia 18 - New Zealand 12
New Zealand now trying to throw it around out of their own end, but not getting a whole lot in the way of metres here before Hughes kicks from just shy of halfway again with Edwards to take the carry back this time.

42' - Australia 18 - New Zealand 12
Australia now working away through Holmes and Edwards to get their second half underway, before Tedesco heads to halfway on five. Last play and it's Cherry-Evans kicking down to Isaako on the bounce.

41' - Australia 18 - New Zealand 12
Away we go! New Zealand with first use of it in the second half. Strong set run by the forwards and Hughes kicks from just shy of halfway down to Tedesco who has had some nice moments tonight.

40' - Australia 18 - New Zealand 12
Teams back for the second half. Australia to kick-off.

HALFTIME - Australia 18 - New Zealand 12
A superb first half comes to an end with Nelson Asofa-Solomona just running it back into the defence.

That'll be halftime. A six-point gap at the break, and that's probably a relatively fair reflection.

Stick around, and we will be back in 15 for the second half.

40' - Australia 18 - New Zealand 12
CONVERSION! Jamayne Isaako
Isaako sends this one over, and the gap will be six points at halftime, provided the two sides can't make anything happen in the four seconds that remain.

39' - Australia 18 - New Zealand 10
TRY! Ronaldo Mulitalo
Ronaldo! What a leap this is. Kiwis onto the attack, Hughes with a kick on the last across the face of the uprights and Mulitalo! Leaps over everyond and falls over the line to score.

37' - Australia 18 - New Zealand 6
Sets each way, but you feel New Zealand just starting to get on top of the arm wrestle in the run to halftime now. They need points though.

34' - Australia 18 - New Zealand 6
Holmes comes up with an error here for the Kangaroos.

32' - Australia 18 - New Zealand 6
CONVERSION! Valentine Holmes
Australia just starting to get away with this a little bit now.

31' - Australia 16 - New Zealand 6
TRY! Lindsay Collins
The game swings again then. Australia survive the New Zealand onslaught, then put on one of their own. Right on the attack, and Murray is almost through on the right, before a short ball on the next sees Lindsay Collins barge over for a double!

29' - Australia 12 - New Zealand 6
And is that all they need? New Zealand are over! No! Surely not. They swing it out to the right-hand side and Jamayne Isaako tries to beat the cover defence into the touch in goal area, but his superman dive surely takes him over the touch in goal line. Wonderful scrambling defence, and in the evend the bunker will find he got a lot closer than he ever should have, just grounding the ball on the white line.

28' - Australia 12 - New Zealand 6
New Zealand win a penalty off the scrum, and then another ten metres for back chat. They will have a full set from ten metres out now.

27' - Australia 12 - New Zealand 6
Well, it's all happening here! The Kangaroos look to take an early chip kick crossfield from Daly Cherry-Evans out of their own 20, but a knock on down the sideline will bring the Kiwis back onto the attack.

26' - Australia 12 - New Zealand 6
The Kiwis can't find a way over in this set, with a grubber then going through on the last and Edwards managing to get it out of his own in goal.

25' - Australia 12 - New Zealand 6
Now the Kiwis work it out of their own end and kick down field, but Edwards drops it cold down there in the corner. Unexpected as anything him dropping one like that.

24' - Australia 12 - New Zealand 6
A strong set after points for Australia, and the Kiwis have to work it out of their own end.

23' - Australia 12 - New Zealand 6
CONVERSION! Valentine Holmes
Holmes slots it over again and the Kangaroos take the lead again.

22' - Australia 10 - New Zealand 6
TRY! Lindsay Collins
Huge run from Murray to get Australia working out of their own end, and they are going to be up to halfway on the third play. They continue heading up field and the last play is magic! Lindsay Collins is going to score off his first touch, but he can put it all down to Tabuai-Fidow. Cross-field kick, spilled out the back and Tabuai-Fidow draws three defenders before alleyooping it over the top to Collins who scores.

21' - Australia 6 - New Zealand 6
The Kiwis with a strong set after points here, and again, it's their forwards doing the damage through the middle third. Hughes eventually kicks down the ground from halfway and Edwards, who has been very quiet so far, brings it back.

19' - Australia 6 - New Zealand 6
CONVERSION! Jamayne Isaako
Isaako slots it over to lock this one up.

18' - Australia 6 - New Zealand 4
TRY! Briton Nikora
New Zealand just using their forwards to power back onto the attack here, and they are going to score. The set looked a little stunted, but then Hughes grubbers ahead and, despite being taken out, it won't matter as Nikora latches onto the bouncing ball to score. We will be locked up in a minute.

15' - Australia 6 - New Zealand 0
A short drop out here from New Zealand, but Holmes does a great work tapping that back to Staggs who is then tackled well. Kangaroos on the attack though and with a chance to increase the lead here, right up until Flegler is absolutely smashed in a tackle and drops the footy.

13' - Australia 6 - New Zealand 0
That 20-metre restart allows the Kangaroos to march up field, and they can't find a way through, but do find a way to force a repeat set. Solid stuff from Australia.

12' - Australia 6 - New Zealand 0
The Kiwis now going side to side as they come onto the attack. Australia's defence equal to the task though, so it's the last play with a Brown kick, but that's too long and Munster outleaps Hughes to win a seven-tackle set and 20-metre restart.

11' - Australia 6 - New Zealand 0
Australia fail to complete this set after points and turn it back over to the Kiwis on halfway.

10' - Australia 6 - New Zealand 0
CONVERSION! Valentine Holmes
Holmes converts his own try from the sideline.

9' - Australia 4 - New Zealand 0
TRY! Valentine Holmes
Australia back onto the attack after that kick out on the full. Inside 20 on three, then Murray looks to find a way through but is tackled well in the end. Right on the next and Tedesco fires through an unexpected grubber that sits up beautifully for the chasing Valentine Holmes who scores.

Lovely work from Tedesco who noticed the defence rushing up and in for the early grubber.

8' - Australia 0 - New Zealand 0
While there were some errors early, this is now being played at lightning pace. The Kiwis full of running, Hughes getting involved as well before Nikora is tackled on five at halfway. Hughes then kicks under pressure from the short side and puts it out on the full. Great defensive pressure from Munster.

7' - Australia 0 - New Zealand 0
This certainly has broken into an arm wrestle now. Strong sets both ways, and both sides working it out of their own end as a result. No real flash from either side.

5' - Australia 0 - New Zealand 0
We will now have a chance for this game to break into rhythm after early errors from both sides. The Kangaroos' attack looks a little lost through this set before Munster goes short side, but is tackled shy of halfway. Cherry-Evans kicks from there and picks out Mulitalo.

4' - Australia 0 - New Zealand 0
So, New Zealand now with their first touch of the ball as they bring it out of their own end. Strong set really through the forwards, with Hughes then kicking from halfway down to Holmes who brings it back strongly out of the corner.

3' - Australia 0 - New Zealand 0
The Kangaroos have a full set from 20 out once again off the scrum. Left with a set play but Tabuai-Fidow tackled well by sliding defence. Flegler back to the middle, then Yeo goes the same on the other side of the uprights and goes close. Halfway through the set, and a shocking play the ball is going to be called a knock on.

New Zealand survive.

2' - Australia 0 - New Zealand 0
So, Australia to attack immediately from 20 out after a good kick for touch. Jake Trbojevic will have the first hit up of the Test, then Flegler backs up. Yepo and Cherry-Evans link with Tedesco to the rtight, but great defence on Staggs forces the ball loose. It's going to go down as a knock on against the Kiwis so more pressure coming up here.

1' - Australia 0 - New Zealand 0
Away we go! And oh. Jamayne Isaako puts the kick-off out on the full over the dead ball line. Australia will go straight onto the attack. Not an ideal start for the Kiwis.

0' - Australia 0 - New Zealand 0
New Zealand to kick-off.

8:12pm
That Haka was something else! Quick warm-up and we will be underway here.
