Departing Canterbury playmaker Matt Frawley has confirmed he could be making the move to Newcastle for the 2019 season and beyond.

Frawley, 23, played his last game for the Bulldogs last weekend after making 31 appearances for the club since his debut in 2017.

The playmaker was farewelled by the club alongside fellow departing veterans Brett Morris, Josh Morris and Greg Eastwood after the well documented drama surrounding Canterbury and the salary cap.

Frawley's season isn't over just yet, as he will feature in the Bulldogs' Intrust Super Premiership side for the remainder of their finals campaign before making a decision on where he'll play next year.

Talking with NRL.com, Frawley expressed he isn't on break just yet as there's still a job to be done for their feeder side.

"There's a fair few of us dropping back and we're a chance of winning it so not on holidays yet," Frawley said.

"I've had so many great memories here and built so many great relationships. For it to come to an end it's a bit of a weird feeling.

"I come up here straight out of 20s and the Dogs gave me an opportunity. I've grown as a player and person."

This would be a wonderful signing for the Knights as they're looking to replace back-up halves after the departures of Jack Cogger to Canterbury and Brock Lamb to the Roosters.

Despite playing second fiddle to the preferred halves pairing of Mitchell Pearce and Connor Watson, Frawley would be a great option for Newcastle, as the club suffered horrific injuries to their spine in the 2018 season.

Frawley went on the explain that even he knows he would have to work extra hard to earn a spot in the starting line up.

"I've got no dramas with that, I want to go up there and prove myself again," Frawley said.

"It is an option, the Knights are a club on the way up and I'd love to go there. It's still up in the air to an extent, but confident something will get done in the next week or so.

"They've got some good players in Pearcey, Connor Watson and other good halves. It's an option. I wouldn't say it's done and dusted but if it was to happen I would be excited and it would be a good place for my footy.

"We've had a few discussions but it's still early days."

Greg Eastwood's future however isn't as clear cut due to the fact he remains without a contract for next season and beyond.

Eastwood explained he'd prefer to stay within Australia to play more seasons in the NRL.

"It was hard missing all of pre-season, it's hard to get your body up to speed these days with everything so quick," Eastwood said.

"But I thought the end of the year I got back to where I wanted to be and gave it a good crack. Hopefully a club has a look and needs me to fill a spot."
