Sisa Waqa is set to return to the NRL after signing a training contract with the Melbourne Storm following a stint in French rugby union.

Waqa left the Storm at the end of the 2014 season after signing a lucrative two-year deal with the Canberra Raiders.ย Waqa was then released by the Raiders in June 2016 to take up a deal with French rugby union club, FC Grenoble.

Melbourne football director Frank Ponissi told rlwc2017.com a decision would be made on whether to sign Waqa before the June 30 deadline.

โ€œHe got injured just before Christmas and moved back about three weeks ago,โ€ Ponissi said. โ€œWe will have a look at him over the next few weeks and if he comes up all right we will sign him for the rest of the season.

โ€œHe is still a fair way off playing because he has been inactive for a while but he is showing good signs. This is his second week of training and we will probably give it another two weeks before we make a call."
